National Mathematics Day is celebrated in India on December 22 every year to honor the legendary Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. This day commemorates his birth and recognizes his immense contributions to mathematics, particularly in areas like number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions. Ramanujan’s work has had a profound impact on modern mathematics, and his legacy continues to inspire mathematicians and students around the world. National Mathematics Day serves as a reminder of the importance of mathematics in shaping various fields, from science and engineering to economics and technology, and encourages young minds to explore the beauty and relevance of mathematical research.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai was established in the state of Chhattisgarh by the Ministry of Education in the year 2016. IIT Bhilai is presently housed in its permanent campus at Kutelabhata, Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. IIT Bhilai offers Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Science (MSc) and Doctoral programs (PhD) in various departments. The Institute made its modest start with introduction of BTech program in August 2016. IIT Bhilai currently offers six undergraduate programs in the disciplines of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering (MSME) and Mechatronics Engineering (MT). The institute also offers MTech programs in the discipline of Bioengineering, Electric Vehicle Technology (EVT), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI), Power Systems and Power Electronics (PSPE), Control and Instrumentation (CI), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering (MSME), Design and Manufacturing (DM), Thermal and Fluids Engineering (TFE) and Mechatronics Engineering (MT) as well as MSc programs in Chemistry (CY), Mathematics and Computing (MA), and Physics (PH). Further, the institute offers PhD programs in Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering (BSBME), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering (MSME), Chemistry (CY), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI), Electrical Engineering (EE), Electric Vehicle Technology (EVT), Liberal Arts (LA), Mathematics (MA), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Mechatronics Engineering (MT), and Physics (PH). IIT Bhilai has established a 3-D Printing Lab that constitutes an integral part of 3-D Modeling and Design course, a fabrication lab, an electrical lab, a computer lab and a library in a short duration.
The department started in 2016 to pursue excellence in teaching and high-quality research by developing appropriate curricula and teaching practices. Mathematics brings together all branches of science and technology. It reproduces the spirit of rationality and takes the leading role in shaping the career of an engineering student to meet global challenges. One of our focuses is to produce engineers equipped with modern mathematics tools with a strong understanding of real-world and engineering problems. One of the central visions of our department is to produce high-quality research and create a healthy environment for research. The faculty members are actively engaged in research along with the teaching responsibilities. Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in Mathematics and Computing started in 2019-20. The department offers Ph.D. programs in various research areas of Mathematics.

Bhilai is well known as the Steel City of Central India and a key education hub of Chhattisgarh. IIT Bhilai permanent campus is well connected through major modes of transport as it is 5 km from the Great Eastern Highway, 5.4 km from Durg junction railway station (the most prominent and important station in Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai line) and 54 km from Swami Vivekananda Airport, Mana, Raipur. The permanent campus of IIT Bhilai is planned to be a complete self- sustaining residential campus and will be developed in phase manner. Over the course of 20 years, the campus is anticipated to expand to house 12,000 students. The present phase of the permanent campus of IIT Bhilai is being constructed in Kutelabhata village, Bhilai, District Durg and will cater to 1200 students respective faculty and staff members
Due to limited campus accommodation, all invited speakers and participants will be provided with lodging either in the guest house or the student hostel.
